The Old Idaho Penitentiary opened its doors in 1872 to some of the West’s most desperate criminals. Guard Tower 1, which faces Old Penitentiary Road on the Northwest corner of the prison, was built in 1894. One hundred and twenty-six years of the elements and occasional vandalism, have severely damaged the structure. With your help, we can save this historic and iconic symbol.

On September 17, 2020 join us for a unique experience featuring behind the scenes tours and seldom heard stories of the Old Pen.
